  • Description
    Dénes Komárik (1929–2017) was an art historian, architect and architectural historian. He received his architect’s diploma from the Budapest University of Technology in 1951, then went on to study art history at Eötvös Loránd University. Meanwhile, he also started working on architectural history, besides being a planner in Architectural Heritage Preservation at the Department of Urban Planning and Architecture at the Budapest Municipal Council. Through this job, he and his team were able to conduct research on the architectural history of listed buildings due to be renovated, thus playing a significant role in creating the scientific foundations of architectural heritage preservation in Hungary. Obtained his candidate’s degree in 1993. His areas of research were the theoretical and subproblems of 19th century architectural history, in particular architecture of the Romanticism and Historicism in Hungary, the sculptors and stone carvers of 18th century Pest, and the life and works of Hungarian architect Frigyes Feszl (1821–1884). Organised an exhibition on Frigyes Feszl in the Budapest History Museum in 1984. Was also a guest speaker at the Department of Art History at Eötvös Loránd University. Author of numerous books, monographs and studies. Was given an Ipolyi Arnold Medal in 1985, an Award for the Preservation of Architectural Heritage in Hungary in 1987, an Ybl Miklós Prize in 1989 and a Forster Gyula Prize in 2006.
    The boxes contain photos of various buildings and documents, with a title, year and research site attached to each. The material also contains the scientific documentation of certain buildings, the documents of candidate, doctoral and thesis procedures, correspondences, theses, and opponents’ reviews as well as the replies to these.
