Melinda Tóth (1939–2012) received her diploma in 1962. She started working at the National Monument Inspectorate in 1964, then later at the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest. Defended her doctoral dissertation (titled A hidegségi templom román kori falképei / The Romanesque wall paintings of the church in Hidegség) in 1972. Became a research associate of the Research Group for Art History (later renamed to Research Institute of Art History) at HAS in the same year. One of Melinda Tóth’s most significant works is the monograph titled Árpád-kori falfestészet (Wall painting in the Arpadian era in Hungary), which was published in 1974, as part of the series Művészettörténeti füzetek (Cahiers d’histoire de l’art). In 1978, Tóth organised an exhibition in Székesfehérvár titled Árpád-kori kőfaragványok (Stone carvings in the Arpadian era), while also being co-author and editor of its catalogue. She became a lecturer at the Department of Art History at Eötvös Loránd University in 1982.
Her areas of research: wall painting in Hungary in the 11th-13th centuries, church patronage and the veneration of saints in the Arpadian era, sculpture, with particular regard to the Romanesque stone carvings of the provostial church in Székesfehérvár, the Benedictine abbey in Somogyvár and the cathedral in Pécs.
The fonds contains the works, manuscripts, letters and photos of Melinda Tóth, as well as survey drawings, expert scientific opinions, bibliographies and the manuscripts and publications of others.
