Zsuzsa Urbach (1933–2020) studied at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, the Ludwig Maximilian Universität in Munich and the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. Received a diploma in art history from Eötvös Loránd University in 1962, after which she soon found employment at the Budapest Municipal Monument Inspectorate. Subsequently spent two years as an editor at Corvina Publishing House, before changing jobs to work at the Old Master Paintings Collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest, and later becoming its head. Wrote her thesis and doctoral dissertation on the painting The Visitation by Master MS in the Hungarian National Gallery, Budapest. Published a book on early Netherlandish panel paintings in 1971, as part of a series by Corvina which presented different parts of the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, and which was published in several languages. She also took part in creating the catalogues of the exhibitions of several other institutions in Hungary and abroad, besides those of the Museum of Fine Arts. Commissioned lecturer at the Department of Art History at Eötvös Loránd University between 1983–1995. Became a founder and first head of the department of Art History at Pázmány Péter Catholic University in 1995, working there until 2004.
The fonds contains Zsuzsa Urbach’s extensive domestic and international correspondence. A small part of the letters are undated, but most are from between 1965–2000. All are separated into sub-folders by year.
