  • Description
    Sándor Ék (Sándor Leicht, German pseudonym Alex Keil, 1902–1975) was a graphic artist. In 1919, he became a member of the Proletár Képzőművészeti Tanműhely (Proletarian Fine Arts Workshop), led by Hungarian avant-garde painter Béla Uitz. Emigrated after the fall of the Tanácsköztársaság in 1919 (Socialist Federative Republic of Councils in Hungary / Hungarian Soviet Republic), and went on to make satirical drawings and posters for the German Communist Party. Immigrated to the Soviet Union in 1933, returning to Hungary as a soldier of the Red Army at the end of World War II. In the following years, he created numerous political posters. Played an active role in the art political propaganda between 1944–1956. Became the rector of the Hungarian College of Arts and Crafts (today called Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design) in 1948, then the head of the Department of Graphics at the Hungarian College of Fine Arts (later renamed to Hungarian University of Fine Arts) in 1949.
