Ilka Gedő (1921−1985) was a painter and graphic artist. Participated in the exhibitions of OMIKE (Országos Magyar Izraelita Közművelődési Egyesület, “Hungarian Jewish Educational Association”) from 1940; exhibited with Szocialista Képzőművészek Csoportja (“Group of Socialist Artists”; 1942, 1962). Participated in the Free National Exhibition in the Municipal Gallery (1947). Endre Bálint organises a studio-exhibition from her drawings in 1964. Spends a year in Paris between 1969–1970. Her retrospective exhibitions: István király Museum, Székesfehérvár, 1980; Compass Gallery, Glasgow, 1985. Her posthumous retrospective exhibitions: Műcsarnok (Kunsthalle), Budapest, 1987; Third Eye Centre, Glasgow, 1989–90; Hungarian National Gallery, Budapest, 2003. Her works are kept in various public collections around the world.
The material is easy to research, as Dávid Bíró compiled and added to it a 5-page list, with the detailed description of all the documents. He has also supplied a great deal of background information (the artist’s exhibitions, a list of her writings, her works in public collections).
