  • Description
István Rácz (1922–2006) was a lawyer and art publicist, as well as one of the most significant art collectors of his era. His collection contained 20th century Hungarian fine art – paintings, sculptures and graphics. Received a diploma in Law, then later a doctorate degree in Law and Political Science, in Pécs. Started collecting art in 1953; throughout his career, his publications were mostly on the topic of child protection and guardianship, besides several studies on art history.
The fonds contains materials related to the art collection of István Rácz: art and exhibition catalogues (many of them signed copies, which he received from the artists), art journals, documents on exhibitions (in Veszprém, Pécs, Kaposvár, Csongrád) of his collection. Also exhibition invitations and photographic material (partly on the placement of the collection in Rácz’s apartment and in exhibitions), as well as art collectors’ addresses, studies and manuscripts. Another significant part of the fonds is the press review, as is Rácz’s extensive correspondence with artists, collectors, art publicists, museums, publishing houses and art institutes.
