  • Description
Tamás Mattyasovszky–Zsolnay (1915–2008) was a mechanical engineer, and the great-grandson of Vilmos Zsolnay. He received his engineer’s diploma from the Budapest University of Technology (“BME”) in 1941, and went on to become an assistant lecturer there. From 1942, he worked at the Zsolnay Porcelain Factory until it was nationalised, then – after World War II – continued as an engineer in several locations throughout the country. Having developed an interest in photography in his early childhood, he was also a member of the photography team of the Society for the Preservation of Budapest. In 1990, he started researching buildings decorated with the ceramics made in the Zsolnay Factory. He co-published books with his second wife, Dr. Esther Vécsey, organised exhibitions, and held lectures on the history of the Zsolnay Porcelain Factory, the family of the same name, and architectural ceramics in general – in English as well as Hungarian. His books: Zsolnay épületkerámiák Budapesten (Zsolnay Architectural Ceramics in Budapest, 2005), Zsolnay épületkerámiák a Józsefvárosban (Zsolnay Architectural Ceramics in Józsefváros, 2003).
